We get to photograph this lovely couples wedding in less than two weeks! Lauren and Scott had impeccable taste when choosing the location of their engagement shoot. Timing was amazing as well because WOW… look at that sunset!
This was the first time I’ve had the please of shooting in the Botanical Gardens in Phoenix and you can rest assured, it won’t be the last. Lauren is going to be such a beautiful bride and I can’t wait to see how their wedding day unfolds! Congratulations to you both and we’ll see you soon!
Melissa and Logan are possibly the sweetest, coolest couple ever! John and I first met Melissa at the bridal show last June. What we learned from that first meeting is that she’s definitely better at math than John. We also learned that she could probably be our best friend and that was totally confirmed once we met Logan for their engagement session.
Cute story alert!!
Melissa and Logan first met when they were both working at Make a Wish. Logan worked in IT and was called in to fix Melissa’s computer/printer issue. Apparently he had quite a difficult time and had to keep coming back to fix it because the darn thing just refused to work! At the time, Melissa was completely dumbfounded as to why the IT guy couldn’t fix this simple issue. Eventually he managed to ask her for a date and months later she found out that he could’ve completely fixed her computer issue. He didn’t though because he wanted to spend more time with her. Awwww! His masterplan completely worked.
A note about their engagement session as well… it was bloody hot. Not just a little bit hot. It was like 110 degrees hot while being completely surrounded by monsoons which made it like 95% humidity, or at least it felt like that. They were both fantastic troopers about it and handled the heat far more gracefully than I did. Let’s just say I’m glad I wore a dark sleeveless shirt.
Melissa and Logan are getting married on February 29, 2016 (leap day) and I couldn’t be more excited to shoot their wedding! Fingers crossed for the 1 year anniversary super secret photoshoot.
One of my brides was featured on a wedding site today and it reminded me that it’s a story worth sharing.
Last summer, I did the Arizona Bridal Show at the Phoenix Convention Center, and as part of the show I gave away an engagement session hoping that it would go to the perfect couple. And it really did!
Kyrsten didn’t get back to me for months after the show, so I assumed her wedding had been called off or something. When she finally reached out to me, she told me that she had lost her little brother to suicide, which is heartbreaking. Her friends and family had come together to help her with her wedding because she had lost the heart for it, and she was calling because she wanted to schedule the engagement session.
We did the session just before Thanksgiving, and I loved her and her husband-to-be Jake. They’re such a delightful couple, fun, down-to-earth and great on camera.
Shortly after the session Kyrsten told me she wanted me to photograph her wedding, and asked how much it would be. She was putting together the wedding on a tight budget, with a rustic, indie feel to it, with her reception in a friend’s backyard. She was to walk herself down the aisle because she said nobody could replace her brother, who was going to do it. I knew I really wanted to be there – her and Jake are a great couple and I felt that we connected! – so I put together a package especially for them.
The wedding was beautiful, and the vibe among her friends and family was really, really nice. I love the photographs that came out of it so much that I’m now using some of them on my homepage. And it really shows how much can be accomplished on a shoestring! It was every bit as meaningful as the $100,000+ weddings I’ve photographed, and I could tell the guests all knew it.
The Budget Savvy Bride did a feature on Kyrsten and Jake’s wedding today, with an interview with Kyrsten where she gives advice on how to plan a beautiful wedding when every penny counts, so read it if you’re going to be planning one of your own!
I was touched to see how she answered this question: “What was your biggest splurge?” She replied: “The photographer. She is absolutely amazing! I don’t regret a single penny!”
Kyrsten is amazing too. I was so glad to be a part of her day.
Kyrsten & Jake were the lucky winners of a free engagement session I gave away at the Arizona Bridal Show last June. First off, can I just say that I am a little in love with Kyrsten’s hair! A little in love and definitely jealous! These two photograph so beautifully it’s hard to imagine that they’ve never done a portrait session together. John and I both hit it off quickly with these two and I’m so excited to be photographing their wedding in December! (Also: check out the awesome location. It’s become a local favorite for me. Bonus points if you know it.)
