Thursday the 26th I headed east to New Mexico, picking up my girlfriend Jillian on the way. She and I have been been on many adventures and this definitely won’t be the last! We decided we wanted to road trip this summer in my husband’s new little convertible, to a place neither of us have been. New Mexico fit the bill. We headed south via Tucson and stayed in an unremarkable town I already forget the name of. The next morning we were delighted to stumble across this grand sculpture!! And when I say stumble I mean I was pulled over for speeding and ended up in a rest stop while the officer gave me a citation. Sheesh. But we did discover this beautiful creature and as luck would have it, the artist was in the process of finishing up some concrete work for this bird’s new home. Apparently he’s traveled all over the state of NM despite his large size. If you look closely at the details you’ll notice he’s created from reclaimed materials, most notably a bazillion tennis shoes, crutches and keyboards!
We stopped briefly in Las Cruces, grabbed a coffee and hit our first little shop. The color! The statues! The DUST!!! It’s a recurring theme for this trip. Copious amounts of dust.
Photos are being edited bit by bit and I will continue to post them as they’re ready. I can’t wait to share more of this amazing adventure!
Over the weekend, we were at the Arizona Bridal Show at Phoenix Convention Center. Here’s our booth! Thanks all of you who stopped by with compliments on the booth or interest in our photography!
Getting ready for these things is a monumental undertaking. We grabbed an old wood pallet, 8′ by 4′, some old rusty corrugated steel, a bunch of two-by-fours and a couple of 4×4 posts and dressed it up with our logo, some prints of some of my most favorite recent work, and a string of Edison bulbs – et viola. It sounds easier than it was!
Anyway, we met a lot of beautiful brides who are tying the knot soon, and had some great conversations about their weddings. Arizona weddings are awesome! So many great venues, indoor and outdoor, and so many amazing people in the process of putting together their special day!
I spent the day with Hannah, whose wedding I photographed a couple of months ago. She was amazing! I think it really helped the brides-to-be to meet her. Hannah’s new husband Chris was also at the show, along with our colleague Josh in a dapper bow-tie and of course John, who drove a lot of screws and hammered a lot of nails! Thanks to all of them, I couldn’t have been at the show without them!
If you are just checking out my site after being at the show, be sure to visit my Facebook page HERE, and if you’d like to chat about your wedding or check availability for your date, use the contact link HERE or call me at (928) 846-7444. Thanks!
Oh and I almost forgot!!! We will be announcing the winner of the FREE engagement session giveaway tomorrow here on my blog and also on my Facebook page. It’s so exciting! I can wait to see who the lucky winner is!
Here are some extra, hastily-shot pics of our booth setup. 🙂
For the 37th year in a row, thousands of fun-loving, sun-loving people flocked to my hometown – Parker, Arizona – to turn the beautiful Colorado River into a giant floating party!
We never know exactly how many people pack the river for the Parker Tube Float each year, but it’s probably around eight to eleven thousand. It’s really a sight to behold. I grew up on this river south of Lake Havasu watching the float slowly pass the docks in front of my house, hearing the hum of the crowd, feeling the sun at the start of summer, breathing in the scent of sunscreen and grill cooking.
On just about every other summer weekend, the river is full of fast boats, waverunners and jetskis, people water-skiing and wakeboarding, surfing behind boats and paddleboarding. But everything slows down for this one Saturday in June, when everything moves at the speed of the current and people tie together and have fun!
This year, I was home for the event so I couldn’t resist photographing some of it! These were some of the ones I liked.
Get the general idea? Now who’s joining us for next year’s float?! 🙂
I love where I live so much.
I had a really lovely Mother’s Day weekend! Very relaxing and just what the doctor ordered. Saturday was spent working on a new project for my website! This photo is a still from some of the film we were taking. We hope to have this project done within a couple weeks, but at least finished by the time the bridal show rolls around.
On Sunday there was some serious pampering going on at an Aveda salon. They work magic. While shopping the boys were under strict orders to not even utter a single complaint because it was Mother’s Day after all. The real test of this was going to Ikea and I have to say, they did great! Haha! It’s a rather hellish experience for an 11 year old boy but I made it as quick and painless as possible. Dinner was peaceful and yummy and yes you can totally give me that margarita the bartender accidentally made.
All in all a good weekend and the first one I’ve had off in QUITE some time! Thank goodness!
